Situated in the scenic hills of the eastern Algarve region, Monte Rei offers stunning panoramas of the Atlantic Ocean southward and the Serra do Calderon mountain range northward. The Algarve is renowned for its golf courses, most of which are nestled between the ocean and the main road that crosses the region horizontally. Monte Rei’s northern position makes it uniquely picturesque. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus in 2007, one of two to be constructed.
Monte Rei reflects his characteristic professional touch, using the existing terrain to create interest for golfers of all levels of experience, with particular challenges for the most expert. Although Monte Rei has numerous hills, it is not too difficult for younger golfers who are able to walk, but there are cart paths for older ones. Many water hazards are also present, but the course provides so many attractive options that they may be avoided.
