In the Sixties and Seventies, when Spain's Costa del Sol was experiencing a boom in construction, the competition for fine Mediterranean vistas was fierce, and usually won by residential developments. Real Club de Golf Las Brisas managed to claim a fine location, and has for nearly half a century remained at the center of the Spanish golfing world.

The country's tourism bureau did much to promote championship play, especially when the European Tour was starting out, when it helped to steer the Spanish Open here within a couple years of Las Brisas' opening.

Robert Trent Jones managed to design a course on a hilly site that has a thoroughly American look, with abundant water hazards, bunkering that is more for guidance than for strategy and plenty of room to maneuver. The recently renovated clubhouse caters to the needs of the over one thousand members from over thirty different countries.
